The Canning College Library Learning Centre provides users with a quiet, friendly environment where they can study, relax and become lifelong learners.
The libray includes areas for quiet independent study, group and tutorial work and an Internet reading lounge for relaxation. The Library includes two computer labs for online learning and two seminar rooms to enhance student research outcomes.
The resources of the Library can be assessed from any computer on the College Intranet. Remote access is available through StudentNet.
The collection includes reference, fiction and non-fiction books, newspapers, periodicals and audio visual resources including DVDs. Computers are also available for word processing; and have access to various CD-ROMs, Online Databases, the Internet, email and other application software. A print cell includes photocopying and printing facilities.
The Learning Centre is situated within the Library and students are provided with ongoing assistance by lecturers from their subject areas.
Students present their ID card when borrowing material from the library. Virtually all material may be borrowed, except for reference books and documentary videotapes, which can be viewed in the Library. Televideos are available for viewing videos and DVDs. Materials in the Closed Reserve collection are used in the Library during the week or borrowed for the weekend. The Closed Reserve collection contains past examination papers and items in heavy demand.
Canning College requires research assignments to be referenced using the Chicago format. Teacher Librarians are available to provide tuition in research and referencing.
