Eirlys Igram, Assistant Regional Executive Director, officially opened the Canning College Gymnasium. Thanks to Ron Goddard, Canning College Board member, and staff and students who attended. This was followed by afternoon tea and a basketball game.

Staff and students from our China sister school, Jimei Middle School, spent a week with us as part of their Perth Study Tour. Students joined in classes then visited sites of interest. A great time was had by all involved. Check out our YouTube site to share their experience!

UniDirect students enjoyed a BBQ as a celebration of a very busy Semester 1 and to get the students together before they launch into their exam period. A beautiful Perth day was enjoyed by all. We also used the occasion to farewell Arthur Wright, Student Services Manager and lecturer for the Diploma of Commerce students. The students all signed a big farewell card and will miss him greatly.

Justin de Sousa, from Curtin Business School, visited our students who will be completing their Diploma of Commerce (Curtin Stream) at the end of this semester. Justin is helping our students make the transition from the Diploma into Year 2 of the Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin Business School.

Today was our annual Career's Day were students get a chance to talk directly to tertiary institutions about their courses and requirements. This year all WA universities were represented plus Queensland University and Central Polytechnic. students and providers agreed the day was very worthwhile.

At the end of this semester, Diploma of Commerce (UWA stream) students will finish their time at Canning College and enter into their second year of the Bachelor of Commerce/Economics at UWA. Today, Michael Sutherland and Annique Lynch, from UWA Business School, visited these students to assist them with their enrolments for the July Intake into UWA. This provides the students with a seamless transition from the Diploma of Commerce into their degree. Michael and Annique are part of the UWA Business School Student Services team. They also gave an overview of the courses and related matters (such as Professional Accounting Practices, studying abroad, Student Societies etc).

On 20 April 2011, instead of a two week vacation in Perth, 21 Canning College staff and partners departed for a two week study tour of China. The itinerary was arranged so that participants learned about the Chinese education system, visited leading Chinese education institutions, gained familiarity with Chinese culture as well as enjoyed some of China's most famous attractions.

Congratulations to ZunMing Lim (2010 student) for being a finalist in the 2011 BHP Billiton Science Awards. The BHP Billiton Science Awards reward young people who have undertaken practical reseach projects, which demonstrate innovative approaches and thorough scientific procedures. ZunMing's project "Identifying pattern as the missing link between colours and its effect on memory" was designed to find out how we can boost our memory to improve our cognitive functioning.
